I’m online and on track. It’s been some time coming and I’ve had to work some things but I have recovered from the shoulder surgery I had at the end of February and am on the up and up. My April was spent working not nearly enough on my schooling (the minuscule amount I have) and way too much enjoying Edmonton with my girlfriend, Vancouver Island with my Brother and Banff and Mexico with my family.
The rehab from the surgery went as smooth I could have of hoped for. Patience is not a virtue of mine, so it was a bit of work to allow myself to stay on the conservative side of the rehab guidelines. The experience I had at the Banff Hospital was amazing. I felt like I knew every other person working and the surgeon, Dr. Hemstra, was ‘spot on” in patching up my shoulder. With some physio and my constant companion “Ice Machine 2000” I’ve been able to get my shoulder in good shape.
With things under control on the shoulder it’s been full steam ahead with the training. The last three weeks have been spent training with the Quebec crew and coach Louis. It’s been great to get back into some serious training and while my family has been feeding me reports of rain in the Bow Valley, it’s been a different story in Quebec. After we arrived we were treated to a couple days of 30 plus degree weather! The team has a great groove in Quebec. 2-3 strength sessions per week, 2 ski specific strength session and one harder intensity session is a normal week at this time of year. Living at sea level is great for the number of hard intensity sessions that take place each week. If I take care of my energy levels, I’m able to get a lot out of each workout. As I travel home today I’m looking foreword to playing and training in the Rockies. On tap we have a glacier camp, which will be a great dose of on snow time and after the glacier there’s a whole lot of dry land training coming down the pipes. It’ll be nice to be in Canmore over the summer and enjoy the beautiful days the Canadian summer has to offer. I’ll be updating things more regularly over the summer. ‘till the next one.
